Renowned as Vijaya Utsav, the Hampi Festival is held at the famous World Heritage Site Hampi each year, attracting throngs of Indians and foreigners. The lanes are dotted with men donning the attire of the military era of Vijayanagar rule while bejewelled elephants, horses and a breathtaking backdrop complete the picture. The air is abuzz with the sound of traditional Kannad musical instruments and vibrantly dressed dancers perform a feast to the eyes.
Amidst a grandiose background vendors sell intricate handicrafts and traditional puppets smile at passers-by. The Hampi festival is truly a cultural fiesta coupled with a 15 km illuminated stretch of opulent monuments that stand on the banks of the Tungabhadra, charming visitors.
