A historical marvel, Kandath Tharavad was built in 1794 and has been inherited by the Kandath family for more than 300 years, who are originally the landowners under the Zamorin of Calicut. Strategically located, the property is placed amidst the lush green rice paddies of rural Kerala. Distinctive in its appeal, the most remarkable features of the house are its exclusive Keralan design, a raised area in the front, and an open courtyard with huge bulbous teak pillars carved with the images of elephants, fishes, snakes and dragons. Well furnished and highly comfortable, all the rooms are air-conditioned and have en-suite shower rooms. Youíll experience the traditional Keralan cuisines at your stay here as set meals of local dishes are served on a shady terrace or in the lawn, with your friendly host Bhagwaldas and other guests.
There is lot to experience during your stay at KandathTharavad: you can explore the village; can go on long walks or cycling excursions along the small meandering roads through an unspoilt landscape and paddy fields; and can visit the local village temple to experience the traditional evening rituals and pooja.
It is to be noted that footwear are not allowed inside the house. (House slippers are provided to guests who are uncomfortable with bare feet). In the months of January and February, there is a short 'windy season' when pleasant cooling breezes blow through the rooms, therefore it is quite difficult for the housekeeping staff to keep rooms dust-free at this time.
