Nestled on a slope surrounded by acres of terraced paddy fields, lush bamboo groves and sub-tropical forest the Bamboo Retreat is located only a 30 min. drive out from the blare and babble of down-town Gangtok. Come and enjoy the peaceful energy of the ground, the enchanting panoramic view of the Nathula-Himalayan range across the valley and a unique blend of Swiss Sikkimese cuisine & hospitality.
Bamboo Retreat is an ideal starting-point to explore Sikkim. Established by a Swiss lady Ms. Helen Kämpf and her Sikkimese Team the Bamboo Retreat endeavors to bridge the cultures of the east and west by offering the best of and to each world. Helen has integrated the comforts of western modernity and design with the cultural heritage of the Himalayas and the Northeast. Each of its 12 rooms has its unique colour-theme in accordance to the elements as taught by Feng Shui. Most rooms come with balconies providing stunning, panormaic views of Nathula and the Eastern Sikkim- Himalayas towering behind the city of Gangtok. The spacious apartment Emerald is ideal for honeymooners, families or guests preferring spaciousness and more privacy. Great care has also gone into creating a culture-reflecting ambience: the furniture is partly traditionally Sikkimese-style partly made of cane; Bhutanese and Lepcha-textiles have been used for curtains and table-sets and a selection of handcrafted bamboo- and cane-items from Sikkim and other parts of Northeastern India decorate the walls.
Here one can enjoy ethnic local meals carefully prepaired with fresh ingredients & seasonal vegetables from the local farmer's market & retreat’s own garden. Both vegetarian and non-veg meals are offered to the guests. The retreat also offers a variety of in-house workshops on mandala-painting, bamboo-basket-weaving, meditation & buddhist philosophy, languages and cooking.
