Gods Own County – Kerala sure knows how to celebrate in style. The signature festival of India’s southernmost state, Onam heralds the onset of the season of harvest, a reason enough to thank the lord and rejoice. This ten day festival is celebrated in great gusto; everyone from children to the aged dress up in newly bought clothes and adorns themselves in heavy jewellery.

During Onam, the temples are decorated vibrantly, showcasing their glory and splendour and humans flock to them to offer prayers of thanks to the presiding deity. Especially Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), sees this festival being celebrated like there is no tomorrow. Girls perform the Kaikottikkali, a traditional dance around the rilualistic brass lamp as onlookers watch mesmerised.
