Flourishing Habitat for Protected Animals

The sanctuary is based in a part of the Western Ghats extending to the Nilgiri Sub-Cluster. It has the advantage of dense tree cover and stretches over many hills, water bodies and gorges. These features create the ideal habitat for a number of animals nearing extinction such as the spotted deer (chital), Asian elephants and Indian bisons. It has also been a part of Project Tiger effectively protecting endangered tigers since 1999.

Sightings at Nagarhole National Park

The sanctuary is a Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve that houses a number of protected tress as well, such as silver oak, rosewood and teak. The park also contains a number of sandalwood trees that are otherwise cut down in South India to fashion sandalwood products. Tourists can gaze upon exotic plant life like the golden shower tree, Butea monosperma and clumping bamboo.

A charming stay at the forest lodges help tourists mark the perfect holiday. The sanctuary denies visitor access during the animal’s mating season; however, safaris during the rest of the year are an exceptional way to peruse the park.
