Built as a reservoir by the royals as an aid to struggling farmers, today the Chhatra Sagar area is a lush paradise that embodies the richness and opulence of the princely northern states. Experience the luxurious Indian hospitality with a tent stay here just as the blue blooded hunters of Jodhpur would.
Discovering the History behind a Breathtaking Oasis
The Chhatra Sagar reservoir that led to the possibility of an oasis in the scorching lands was built by a beloved noble of the Marwar desert, Thakur Chhatra Singh of Nimaj. Considering the geographical challenges and dire need of water, the belief of water being a sacred resource was respected here. Taking up the responsibility that comes with his power, he commissioned a dam to be built here in the late nineteenth century. Once it was complete, it would harvest rain water and be used by invited farmers residing on nearby lands to make use of the unconditional supply.
An Opulent Twist to Camping
Today the Chhatra Singh Camp, run by the descendants of the very same royal family, offers tourists a memorable experience with their luxury camping packages. Equipped with modern amenities and a private bathroom, your stay in a tent here will not involve any compromising on your part. Sip on some delicious elixirs under the expanse of a never ending sky, just as many nobles and royals have done so in the past.
