Famous for its majestic buildings that are now in ruins, this small town in the State of Karnataka is known as the birthplace of the Bahmani Dynasty. Today, this town is mostly home to a large Islamic population.

There is also the Ghathargi Bhagayavanti Temple that is located on the picturesque banks of the River Bhima. Pilgrims from all over the world are known to visit this town every year.

The Thriving Food Scene If you like to include local foods into your cultural immersion when travelling, Gulbarga is known to have a unique local food scene that has influences from towns and states nearby. For instance, the Hoorana Holige is a variant of the Puran Poli native to the nearby state of Maharashtra. This sweet dish is only found in this district and most often made during festivals. In addition to this, make it a point to try the Jolada Rotti and the Malpuri when in Gulbarga.
