Western Vision – Ancient Caves and
Temples

Land of the valiant Marathas and their intrepid ruler Shivaji
Maharashtra located on t he Western Deecan Plateau with its dynamic
financial capital city Mumbai, is the Gateway to India, a symbolic
landmark “ arch” built in 1911 to commemorate the visit of King George
1st and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar.
Aurangabad – the Moghul city with its ancient rock cut of caves at
Ellora and the fresco paintings at Ajanta Cave. Temple city of Khajuraho
with the 10th century erotic Chandela temples, the mausoleum of eternal
love, the marble wonder at Agra’s Taj Mahal. This tour combines variety
and offers visits to “ World Heritage sites” of Ajanta Ellroa, Taj Mahal,
chandela Temples.

Day 01
Arrive Mumbai. Transfer to hotel.
Day 02
Breakfast. Morning motor launch excursion to Elephanta caves Island
with its rock cut caves excavated in 7th century AD with a 5 mt high
statue of the Hindu Trinity of Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. Afternoon visit
Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan ( Mahatma Gandhi’s museum), Hanging
Garden, Kamla Nehru Park, Mahalaxmi Temple, drive past marine drive,
Chowpatty Beach, Victoria Terminus, Crawford Market. Rest of the
afternoon at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03
Early wake-up call. Transfer to airport for flight to Aurangabad.
Drive to Ajanta Caves date back 200 BC to 650 AD illustrating episodes
from the life of Buddha with magnificent cave paintings. Transfer to
hotel for overnight.
Day 04
Breakfast. Visit Ellora Caves, excavated out of a ridge running north
to South dating between 600 AD to 800 AD, these 34 caves are mostly
Viharas and monasteries belong to the Buddhist, Jainism and Hinduism.
The most noted is the Hindu Kailash Temple, an immense statue carved out
of a single rock, with a gateway, courtyard, assemble hall and
elaborately sculpted tower over the main Shrine. On return visit Daulat
Bad Fort built in 14th century by Mohammed Bin Tuglaq with a tragic
attempt to shift his capital and population from Delhi to Aurangabad.
Bibi Ka Moqbara – tomb built by Aurangzeb for his life Rabia-ud Durani.
The mausoleum is a poor imitation of his mother’s tomb Taj Mahal at Agra
built by his father Emperor Shah Jehan. Transfer to airport for flight
to Delhi. Transfer to hotel.
Day 05
Breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Khajurhao. Transfer to
hotel. Afternoon visit Eastern group of Chandella Jain Temples of the 85
temples built in the 10th century only 22 have survived the ranges of
weather and time. The finest of the remaining Jain Temple, Parasvanath
Temple has exquisite sculptures including the famous figurine of the
Apsara ( dancing nymph ) removing a thorn from her foot. Evening watch a
spectacular son-et-lumiere show. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06
Breakfast. Visit Western Group of Temples rise spire upon like mirage
in the middle of nowhere. The tall spires are balanced with horizontal
bands of dazzling profusion of carved figurines, animals, chariot
sculpted in unerring perfect. Visit the Temples of Kandariya Mahadev,
Devi Jagdamba, Lakshmana Temple with bands of ornamental friezes of
warriors engaged in battle, procession of horses, elephants. Facing the
temple is a shrine dedicated to Varala, the boar incarnation of Lord
Vishnu, Chitragupta temple with the unusual eleven headed statue of Lord
Vishnu depicting his ten incarnations, Vishwanath Temple of Lord Shiva,
the oldest Chausath Yogini built in 900 AD for Goddess Kali. Late
afternoon transfer to airport for flight to Agra. Transfer to hotel.
Day 07
Breakfast. Morning tour of Agra Fort and at leisure at the Mausoleum
of Mumtaz Mahal, the glory in marble, The Taj Mahal. Spend your time to
absorb the wonders that the world treasures as the most extraordinary
poetry of love. Overnight at hotel.
Day 08
Breakfast. Tour of Fatehpur Sikri – a world heritage site. Thereafter
drive to Delhi. Overnight at hotel.
Day 09
Breakfast. Tour of Old & New Delhi city. Overnight at hotel.
Day 10
Transfer to airport for
onward flight.
