Mountain Golfing

Day 01
Arrive Mumbai. Met by India Calling Representative and transfer to hotel. Afternoon tour visiting Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan, Mahalaxmi Temple, Kamla Nehru Park, Hanging Garden, Crawford Market, Victoria Terminus. Evening at leisure of Marrine drive and Chowpatty Beach.

Day 02
Drive to Chembur for a game of golf at Presidency Golf Club with 18 holes, par 70. The course was redesigned by Peter Thompson. The fairways are narrow and tight and a real test with the Vexing sea breeze which can fox the most seasoned player. Depending on the first day’s schedule, eihter continue for a second game ( with lunch at the club house – own expense). OR afternoon city tour.

Day 03
Morning motor launch excursion to Elephanta Cave Island. Afternoon game of golf at Chembur. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04
Morning transfer to airport for flight to Kolkatta. On arrival transfer to Tollygung Club. The 100 acre club grounds boast of an enviable collection of rare tropical plants brought by the British from Australia and South America. The foliage provides home to a number of exotic species of avian life, Other facilites at the club house include two well stocked bars, restaurant with a extensive choice of a-la-carte menu, seven tennis courts, 2 squash courts, 2 swimming pools, billiards and snooker rooms, a card room with a well stocked library. Facility also available for equestrian sports. A steeple chasing and horse jumping show are an annual event of the club. A live piano recital in the evening hours at dinner time, makes it a pleasant atmosphere.
Afternoon a game of golf. The Club house was originally built in 1781, while the course was laid in 1895 by Sir William Cruikshank. Tollygunje Club 18 holes, distance 6572 yds, Par 71, distance ladies 6192.

Day 05
The royal Calcutta Golf Club was the first course outside Britain. Established in 1829, till the late 1950’s all Golf Clubs in India were affiliated to RCGC, Calcutta which followed the rules of St Andrews Scotland. RCGC 18 holes distance Getns 7189 yds, distance ladies 6827 yds. Par 73
Morning and afternoon at the course.

Day 06
Morning a visit to the Calcutta Ladies Golf Club established in 1891 by Mrs. Peddlar and a group of ladies who where humiliated for not being allowed to play at both Tollygunge and RCGC. The unique feature is that the club house is on wheels, as the club was established on leased lands of Fort Williams, the Army Head Quarter and no permanent construction was permitted. Thereafter visit Indian Museum, St Paul’s cathedra Victoria Memorial, Raj Bhawan, Writers Building, Town hall and Marble Palace.

Day 07
Transfer to airport for flight to Guwahati. On arrival drive to Shillong. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit Lady Hydari Botanical Park, Ward;s Lake, Museum, St Paul’s Cathedral. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 08
Game of golf at Shillong Golf Club established in 1898 as a 9 hole course. As the game gained popularity in Shillong and neighbouring East Bengal ( undivided), a new 18 hole course was established in 1924 with 70 par, Ladies distandce 5231 yds and gentleman’s distance 5873 yds. The course is set in an undulating valley covered with thick pine grove and rhododendron trees. Most of the approaches are uphill short and even a veteran golfer opts to play safe, along with mountain streams crisscrossing the fairways.

Day 09
Day trip to Cherrapunjee ( the wettest place in the world with the highest recorded rainfal). Visit the various canes and water falls in the area. Return to Shillong.
10 Drive to Guwahati. Afternoon tour of Kamakhya Temple, Nabagarha Temple, Bhubaneswari Temple, Handicraft centre. Assam is very famous for wooven silk textile.

Day 10
Transfer to airport for flight to Delhi. Met by India Calling Representative and transfer to hotel. Evening watch a show of classical dance of India. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11
Tee off at the Delhi Golf Club with 220 acres of greenery the course is laid out on a portion Indian’s Mughal history. Carved out of a portion of land of the Lodhi dynasty rulers, the course has on its precints a number of tombs and monuments from the rule of Jahandar Shah Lodhi and a ruined masuseleum of the Afgan Lodhi dynasty. The present course was re-designed by Peter Phompson with 18 holes, distance gents 6869 yds, ladies 5859 yds, par 72. The club has a pro-shop, bar, card room, swimming pool and restaurant facility.
Afternoon tour of New Delhi visiting India Gate, drive past Presidents Palace, Parliament House, there after visit Lotus temple and World Heritage site of Humayun’s Tomb and Qutab Minar. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 12
Early morning drive to Agra to visit the monuments of eternal love and world heritage sites Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Thereafter a game of Golf at the Agra Club with the magnificent mausoleum Taj Mahal at the back drop. Late evening return to Delhi.

Day 13
Morning a game at the Jaypee Greens at Noida Golf Course. Afternoon visit Shahajehanabad, the walled city of Old Delhi with its narrow cobbled street, bustling bazzar and centuries old land marks. Visit Red Fort, Peal mosque, Raj Ghat drive to Chandini Chowk to visit Jama Masjid, on return to hotel visit Laxmi Narayan Birla Temple.

Day 14
In time transfer to airport to board flight for onward journey.
