Sikh Shrines
Sikhism is a peaceful non-violence faith with a growing influence in the West and USA. It is not however a missionary faith and remains firmly rooted in the Indian State of Punjab. Here are its takhts (Shrines and Gurudwaras) and their seats of authority. With India – Pakistan partition in 1947, Lahore, the former capital of individual Punjab, went to Pakistan. Punjap thus needed a new capital and the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, saw in it an opportunity to create a city Symbolic of the futuristic India “Chandigarh”, the first totally planned city was created by the Swiss – French architect Charles Edouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier, and it is the only city in India which is a capital of two states Punjab & Haryana. Sikkhism has a very growing influence in USA and Britain and many Westerners are adopting Sikhism and come to India to learn the “Granths”
