Season : October/November

PUSHKAR FESTIVAL
Pushkar is an ancient religious town, in the Thar desert of Rajasthan. For 12 days in the Hindu month of 'Kartik' a flood of pilgrims arrive in carts, on camels or on foot to transform the place around Pushkar Lake into a spectacular fairground, the largest in the country, and world famous. Thousands of tribals, pilgrims come with their camels and cattle, to transact business. On the night of the full moon (Kartik) hundred of devotees bathe and worship in the shimmering waters of the Pushkar Lake. There are various folk entertainments and delights in the dazzling wares of hundred of roadside stalls.

The fair is overwhelming in its magnitude and in its visual impact. Evenings at the Pushkar Fair have their own charm when thousands of campfires light up under the starlit dark blue sky. Ballads, folk dramas, skits and folk dances are organised for tourists.
