A store house of heritage and culture spanning a history of over five
thousand years, India has inherited thousands of centuries of artifacts
and historical heritage excavated from the sites of Indus Valley
Civilization, Mohenjodaro, Harappa. Buddhist and Jain sites of Vaishali,
Nalanda, Rajgir, Sarnath, Bodhgaya. Collections from the periods of
Maurya, Sunga, Kushan, Gupta, Mughal, Pallava, Hoysala, Gandhara,
Chalukya, Chola dynasties. Miniature paintings from Kangra, Basohli,
Pahari, Mughal, Tibetan “thankas”, Egyptian mummies belonging to the
Ptolemaic epoch.
With such a vast historical heritage in store, the British setup the
Archeological Survey of India in the 19th century to document the wealth
of heritage available in India. The first museum, The Indian Museum, was
established at Calcutta (Kolkata) in 1875.
Today the concept of museums has assumed considerable significance. In
addition to general museums, there are specialized museums, such as
museum of Science, Natural History, Ethnography, Tribal Art, Textile and
Dolls, Aerospace, taking visitors across a journey spanning ancient
civilizations to imperial dynasties.

Day 01
Arrive Delhi. Met by India Calling representative and
transfer to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 02
Breakfast. Visit National museum, one of India’s most
prestigious institutions with chronologically displaying excavated
antiquities of Indian Valley civiliztion – Mohanjodara, Harappa, Maurya,
Sunga, Satavanha, Gupta, Pallva, Chalukya, Pala, Sera and Chola periods.
The museum’s most significent gallery is the selection of central Asian
Exhibits. Thereafter visit National Gallery of Modern Art displaying
rare works of Raja Ravi Varma, Abanindranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore,
Nandala Bose and Amrita Shergil to name just a molecule few. Proceed to
crafts museum, a very unique ethnic setting of village craft,
specialties are cire perdure objects from Basta, Bengal, Bihar and
Karnataka.
Afternoon visit India Gate, Parliament House, Presidents Palace,
Humayun’s Tomb and Qutab Minar. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03
Breakfast, Visit Archaeological Museum at the Red fort which
has superb collections from Mughal period specially the calligraphy
section. Thereafter tour of red Fort – Diwane Asm, Diwane Khaas, Pearl
Mosque, proceed to Chandini Chowk visit Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat, Birla
Temple.
Afternoon visit National Museum of National History and the rare
locomotives on display at the Rail Transport Museum. Return to Hotel.
Evening watch a cultural show of Indian Classical Dances, followed by a
gourmet meal at a specialty Indian restaurant. Welcome to India courtesy
India Calling. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04
Breakfast. Drive to Agra enroute visit the Government
Archeological Museum which traces the evolution of the Mathura school of
Art and some rare Jain and Buddhist objects. Continue drive to Agra and
on arrival check into hotel. Afternoon visit Agra Fort. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 05
Breakfast. Visit the World Heritage Taj Mahal. Proceed to
Bharatpur enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri, archaeological Museum at
Bharatpur displaying a rich collection of excavations of nearby areas
and exhibits from the former princely Bharatpur State. Check-in to the
hotel.
Afternoon visit Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary with a joy ride on cycle
rickshaw. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06
Breakfast. Drive to Jaipur. Check-in to hotel. Afternoon
visit city palace and Sawai Mansingh Museum displaying ancestral
collection of the former Maharajas, the observatory, Albert Museum and
Hawa Mahal. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07
Breakfast. Excursion to Amber Fort including an elephant joy
ride, Archeological Museum which features two “ Yupa” ( sacrificial)
Pillars with ------ from Barnala, rare 8th century tera cota
collections.
Afternoon visit Government Central Museum – a collection of sketches of
Persian Gardens, an Egyptian Mummy of the Ptolemaic period and rare
miniature paintings. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 08
Early morning wake-up and transfer to airport for a short
flight to Udaipur. On arrival transfer to hotel. Breakfst. Late morning
visit City Palace Museum, a variety of colourful mosaic and painted
tiles, glass and porcelain figurines. Shilpa Gram Museum showcasing folk
and tribal art of Rajasthan. Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum containing dolls,
masks, musical instruments and a large display of puppets. Thereafter
visit Sahelion –ki-bari’s vast garden and fountains. Drive past
Fatehsagar lake to Jagdish Chowk for handicraft shops, Clock Tower.
Return to hotel for overnight.
Day 09
Early morning flight to Mumbai. Breakfast on board the
flight. On arrival transfer to hotel. Visit Prince of Wales Museum with
a rich collection of Indian Paintings, textile, armoury, glass and jade
objects, rock crystals, metal ware and lacquered wood work. Jehangir Art
Gallery , National Gallery of Modern Art, Mani Bhawan Gandhi Museum,
Bombay National History Society – Hornbill House a museum of a different
nature where collectors have been donating their prized specimens of
animals and birds. The museum has a vast collection of rare books.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 010
Breakfast. Visit Gateway of India, Afgan Church, Hanging
Garden, Kamla Nehru Park, Mahalaxmi Temple, Crawford Market. Afternoon
visit Victoria and Albert Museum with its interesting exhibits of maps,
photographs depicting the history of Mumbai. Overnight at hotel.
Day 011
Transfer to airport for an early morning flight to Hyderabad.
Breakfast on board the flight. On arrival transfer to hotel. Thereafter
city tour visiting the city’s most prominent land mark, The Charminar
located in the heart of a bustling bazzar and peal market. Proceed to
Mecca Masjid, State Archeological Museum with early Buddhist antiques a
stone shrine, dolerite pillars, wooden chariot use din temple
processions. Hussain Sagar Lake - a favourite promenade separating the
twin cities of Hyderabad and Secundrabad, Nagarjunakonda Museum has
artifacts dating back to the 3rd century, the main exhibit is the “
Mahachitya” the most sacred of the stupa Buddhist sculptures, tools from
Paleolithic and Neolithic ages, coins and coin moulds.
Day 012
Breakfast. Prepare yourself for a heady collection of rare
articles at the Salarjung Museum. A private collection of Nawab Salar
Jung III, an unusual man with a passion for rare books, a prized
collection of over forty thousand objects belonging to different
civilizations dating back to the 1st century, the clock gallery with 300
clocks . A well spent day if you manage to cover even one – fifth of
this vast museum. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 013
Breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Chennai. On
arrival transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit the State Museum displaying
bronze sculptures from Amravati from the Chalukya and Kakatiya periods,
proceed to Fort St. George Museum which has an impressive collection of
portraits and paintings of British Royal, former Governors of Madras,
Weapons, coins porcelain and communion vessels of St. Mary’s Church
built in 1640, the first Anglican Church in Asia. Proceed to San Thome
Basilica, St Thomas’ Mount, Theosophical Society and Parthasarathy
Temple. Rest of the day spend on Marina beach - 2nd longest beach in the
world. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 014
Breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Kolkata. On
arrival transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit Kolkata Panorama at the Town
Hall, India’s first hi-tech museum with state – of –the – art portraying
the history of Kolkata city from its inception, through the Bengal
renaissance, freedom struggle to modern day. Proceed to Ashutosh Museum
of Modern Art displaying basalt sculptures from Pala and Sena periods,
Marble Palace a museum of private collection of renaissance European
art, crystal Chandeliers, Wall tapestry and statues. Rabindra Bharati
Museum is the ancestral home of the Nobel laureate Sri Rabindra Nath
Tagore a collection of his paintings, etchings and personal
memorabilia’s. Return to hotel for overnight.
Day 015
Breakfast. Visit the Indian Museum established in 1875,t he
first museum to be set up in India, displays a wide range of itmes –
Tibetan and Temple banners, ancient Gnadhara sculptures, carving from
Orissa temples, fossils of pre-historic creatures. Besides cultural
artifacts, the museum also hosts eighty thousand specimens of
meteorites, precious stones, rocks and minerals. Proceed to Asiatic
Society museum where has rare manuscripts from all over Indian and South
East Asia Bhabru Rock Edict of Emperor Ashoka, Copper plates from 11th
and 12th century. Proceed to Victoria memorial Museum housing
collections from the British Colonial period and a life size statue of
Queen Victoria. Return to hotel for overnight.
Day 016
Breakfast. Transfer to airport for onward flight.
