Cultural Tours - Kerala Exploration

A narrow fertile strip of land on the South - West coach of India,
immensely blessed by nature with pristine pal fringed beaches of Kovalam,
Varkala, blue lagoons, hills and wildlife sanctuaries. The long stretch
of its coastal line of 575 kms with its string of ports, have played a
decisive role in shaping the history and cultural heritage of Kerala.
From 3rd B.C. Egyptians, Phoenicians, Chinese and Babylonians had trade
relations with the Travancore Kings. Early 17th century brought the
Dutch, French and the British East India Company, lured by the wealth of
its natural resources ivory tusks, teak, rubber plantation, coconut and
coir, cashew nuts, and exotic spices like ginger, cinnamon, cardamom,
pepper.
Christianity, Judaism, Islam all found their way into Kerala. The
Apostle St. Thomas arrived here in 52 AD to spread the gospel of Christ
and followed the Syrian liturgy with the arrival of Vasco Da Gama the
Portuguese explore the Latin ( Roman Catholic ) liturgy was also
introduced in certain Churches, Dutch and British brought along the
Anglican doctrine. With almost a quarter of the land are being covered
by forests, Kerala has a natural habitation of 600 species of plants and
the jungles are a treat for wildlife lovers, with the placid back waters
offering a wonderful house boat holiday and Ayurveda treatment at many
of its beach resorts. The state of Kerala was formed in 1956 merging the
Princely states of Travacore, Cochin and Malabar.

Day 01
Arrive Mumbai. Transfer to hotel.
Day 02
Breakfast. Motor launch excursion to the Elephanta Caves with the
massive statue of the Hindu Trinity – the Trimurti of Brahma, Vishnu,
Mahesh ( Shiva). Aftenoon visit Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan,
Hanging Garden, Kamla Nehru Park, Marinde drive, Mahalaxmi Temple,
Crawford Market, Victoria Terminus. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03
Early Breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Coichin. Trnasfer
to hotel. Afternoon visit Mattancherry’s Jewish settlements with
Paradesi Synagogue dating back to 1567 AD. Scrolls of the Old Testament,
a number of copper plates inscribed in Hebrew Script are preserved here.
The interiors have flouring of blue pattered Cantonese tiles, gleaming
of the Cochin rajas with exquisite murals adoring the walls, depicting
scenes from Ramayana, Mahabharat on the theme of Puthra Kameshtiya gam
on Lord Rama’s life. Return to hotel. Evening watch a Kathakali dance
performance.
Day 04
Breakfast. Visit For Cochin, St. Francis Church built in 1510 AD by
the Portuguese, Santa Cruz Basilica, Dutch Cemetry, Chinese Fishing nets
( thse fascinating nets were brought by the Chinese traders from Kublai
Khan’s court.
Evening boat cruise on Cochin Harbour to watch the Sun set.
Day 05
Breakfast. Drive to Kumarakom. Transfer to Ketuvalayam the tradition
House Boat on Vembanad lake. At leisure. All meals.
Day 06
At leisure on the House Boat. All meals.
Day 07
Breakfast. Drive to Thekkady. Check-in at Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Afternoon boat cruise on the Lake for game viewing. Overnight at resort.
Day 08
Breakfast. Widlife Game viewing. All meals.
Day 09
Breakfast drive to Kollam ( Quilon). At leisure. Overnight at hotel.
Day 10
drive to Varkala Beach check in at resort. Optional Ayurveda
treatment, mineral water springs.
Day 11
Breakfast tour of Vishnu Shrine ( Lord Janardhana) Sivagiri Mutt (
Ashram) built by the Hindu reformist Sree Narayana Guru. Rest of the day
at leisure on the beach.
Day 12
Breakfast. Drive to Trivandrum. Transfer to hotel.Afternoon visit
Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Napier Museum, Sree Chitra Art Gallery.
Overnight at hotel.
Day 13
Breakfast. Drive to Kovalam beach. Transfer to Beach resort. At
leisure on the Kovalam Beach.
Day 14
Breakfast. At leisure on Kovalam Beach.
Day 15
Breakfast. Transfer to Trivandrum Airport for onward flight
connection.
