The town is said to have been founded after Lord Brahma conducted a holy ceremony that culminated in the dropping of a lotus blossom. The site where the blossom fell is the region where the town came into being. Pushkar is at an altitude of 1,670 ft is a popular place of day-tripper interest. Many of the travelers stay on to visit the Brahma, Varah shrines and Pushkar Lake.
