Our Trips - Special Interest Tours - A HouseBoat Solitude


Two distinct parts of India with their glorious history, unique culture and vast natural beauty. On tucked in the northern Himalayas in Kashmir with its vast lakes and Ski resorts, the other nestled in the Western ghats of Kerala bathed by the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.

The Journey along the backwater is an unique experience with a glimpse of village life at close quarters. The blue lagoon form a dramatic picture as you cruise on a Kettuvallam ( wooden house boat), with the rhythmic humming of the helmsman, curious on lookers at the tiny villages, water birds diving to catch a fish. Relish the delicacies of Mallayalam cuisine with exotic spread of sea food and tongue lashing fish curries, served on traditional bannana leaves.

Day 01
Arrive Kochin ( Cochin). Met by India Calling Representative and transfer to hotel. Afternoon tour of Mattancherry visiting Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace, St Francis Church. Boat cruise at Cochin Harbour. Watch the unique Chinese Fishing nets. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02
Drive to Kumarakom and stay at a Kettuvallam on the backwaters of Vembanad Lake.
These luxurious houseboats have all the modern facilities with spacious bed room, attached bath – toilette, sit out verandah, dining space and well equipped kitchen.

Day 03
At leisure for nature walks in the village or just relax in the houseboat.

Day 04
At leisure on the houseboat.

Day 05
Drive to Alleppey “ the venice of the East”. If you happen to take the tour around end August / September you can watch Nehru Boat Race on Onam festival. The unique Chundan Vallam ( a 30 mts long snake boat) with their hundred odd oarsmen participating in a boat race.
A colourful pageantry with folks songs and music enliven the entire lour.

Day 06
Drive to Kochi. Transfer to airport for onward flight.

The beautiful vale of Kashmir is noted for its unsurpassed scenery, exquisite handicraft, the placid expanse of Dal and Nageen Lakes, with water sport facilities, leisurely Shikara cruise through the intricate maze of waterways, floating vegetable gardens, the golden expanse of Saffron fields at Sonmarg, the Ski slopes at Gulmarg along with the highest golf course at 2730 mts. Trout fishing in Linder river in Pahalgam with the historic Amarnath Caves nearby. Pahalgam is a base for various short treks – Amarnath caves via Chandanwari, Sheshna and Chandarwari. Kolohoi Glaciers via Aru, hidderwatt and Tarsu Lake. The stark Laddakh plateau with its Buddhist monasteries. This entire region is visual delight of laid out Mughal Garden, Chinar trees, Son-et-lumiere at the Shalimar Bagh, the holy Hazratbal Mosque enshrining the hair of Prophet Mohammed. A visit to Kashmir will induce you to come again and again.


Day 01
Arrive Delhi. Met by India Calling Representative and transfer to hotel.

Day 02
Breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight for Sringar. On arrival transfer to Deluxe House Houseboat on Dal Lake / Nageen Lake. Evening Shikara Cruise on the lake.

Day 03
Early morning visit the floating markets by Shikara a unique market place where Shikara men and women sell their wares, vegetables, fruits, flowers while rowing their boats. Return to the houseboat for breakfast. Thereafter visit the centuries old Mughal Gardens – Shalimar Bagh laidout by Emperor Jehangir for his consort Nurjehan.
Nishat Bagh laid out by Emperor Shah Jehan. Chashma Shahim, the garden has natural mineral water springs. The rest of the day at leisure for water spots.

Day 04
Day trip to the valley of Shepherds, Pahalgam. Optional angling for trout in Lidder River.

Day 05
Transfer to airport for flight to Delhi to connect onward flight.
