Situated in the Karauli district of Rajasthan, the fortress of Ramathra sits high above the Daang plateau offering great views of the sunrise over the Kalisil Lake from the day beds perched atop the forts walls which are exceedingly comfortable for a lie-in. The owners, Ravi and Gitanjali have restored the 17th century bastion to house four spectacular suites that are swanky and six dynamic tents, which are intricately decorated with permanent en-suite bathrooms with continuous hot water supply.
The hosts are very knowledgeable and offer great conversational insights into the history of the area. Along with that, they offer supreme services and every evening a bar is set up and visitors can huddle around a warm fire and enjoy terrific food. As the Fort is nestled between two of India’s premier wildlife reserves – Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, one can easily visit these breathtaking displays of flora and fauna while staying here. The fort also offers an insight into Rajasthan’s rural life, with various tours to the villages, gorges and ancient temples. An exceptionally romantic experience can be begotten while staying here as when the sun sets, a candlelit charm descends upon the property.
