Celebrated by pious Muslims across the length and breadth of the county, Id-ul-Zaha, popularly known as Bakr Id in India is an important sacrificial festival. On this day the Muslims sacrifice goats (Bakr in Urdu) and in some cases cows to commemorate and somewhat replicate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim.

According to the Holy Kuran, Prophet Ibrahim had willingly surrendered his son at the command of Allah, and to this day his selfless act is rejoiced by the practitioners of Islam. In honour of Id-ul-Zuha, namaz is first offered in mosques followed by distribution of the sacrificed meat. A gala feast is held in all Muslim households in Srinagar and friends and family come together to celebrate this auspicious event.
