The climax of this vivacious festival is the masked dance, performed with gaiety and fervour by the Lamas to emphasise the conquest of good over evil. Each performer sports a different mask, depicting one of the many characters from the fable being showcased. A culmination of music, dance, religion and culture, the Hemis festival is a must-see while in Leh.
