In this Tour
• Explore a settlement of Hindu Tamil Brahmins, Hindu Gujaratis and Jains that settled here in the 1930s
• Understand how these settlements influenced the food culture of this area
• Explore the cultural epicenter that is home to a host of places of worship
• Walk through the bazaars dealing in textiles, flowers and household items
• Visit the Astika Samaj temple
• In the food market get exposed to various spies, herbs and vegetables unique to the tastes developed here
• Stop at a local store where you purchase an enchanting array of treats and bites
• Make sure to spend time at the tasting counter
• Explore the different kinds of mouth fresheners unique to these shops
• The tour ends with a meal at a popular South Indian restaurant along with some coffee

WHAT TO WEAR: Wear comfortable shoes for walking and bring along enough sun protection

TOUR NOTES: Please note, the food on the street is delicious but does not meet national or international hygiene standards. Although we only go to very popular places, with good local reputations, these stalls do not cook using bottled water or wash their utensils with it. So eating street food is always risky. If you prefer not to risk it, but still want to see what it’s all about, then at the end of the walk, we can take you to Haldirams where you can try chaats and other popular dishes in safe and hygienic conditions.
