In this Tour
• In this walking tour, you will be able to gain insights into the religious, political, social and economical tapestry of this melting pot. Here, you will be able to delve into the lives of Marathi-speaking Hindus that live together with Parsis and Muslims
• The trip includes a walk through the psychedelic spice market, the vegetable market, the fried snacks (farsan) market known as the Chivda Galli as well as the fish market
• You will also be take through stores selling wedding and religious items, day to day items, kitchen ware, provisions and other relics
• The tour includes insights into the local food culture
• A short taxi ride will take you to the award-winning Bhau Daji Lad Museum located by the Byculla Zoo. In the grounds of this Zoo we will also see the massive stone elephant structure that is considered to be the namesake of the Elephanta Islands off the coast of Mumbai

WHAT TO WEAR: Wear comfortable shoes for walking

TOUR NOTES: Please note, the food on the street is delicious but does not meet national or international hygiene standards. Although we only go to very popular places, with good local reputations, these stalls do not cook using bottled water or wash their utensils with it. So eating street food is always risky. If you prefer not to risk it, but still want to see what it’s all about, then at the end of the walk, we can take you to Haldirams where you can try chaats and other popular dishes in safe and hygienic conditions.
