Temples of Gokarna
Thousands of tourists throng into this small town of Karnataka every year to visit the Mahabaleshvara Temple that is located close to the beach. Meters away from this Shiva Temple is the Maha Ganapati Temple which is built in honour of Lord Ganesha for having played a role in taking what is known as the Atma Linga from Ravana. Most pilgrims make it a point to visit this temple before they move on to the Shiva Temple.
This town has about 5 beaches including the Kudle Beach, Gokarna Beach, Paradise Beach and Half-Moon beach. If you are staying in the town, Kudle Beach is the most popular one that you would want to visit. If you are looking for some peace and quiet, head to the aptly named Om Beach.
If you happen to visit in the months of February and/or March, try to visit around Maha Shiv Ratri when the town lights up in splendour and celebration.
