Char Dham

Up in the misty heights of the majestic Garhwal Himalayas awaits a spiritual experience for the devout as well as for the mountain lovers. Nestling in the lofty peaks are the four most holy pilgrimages of India – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, collectively referred to as the Char Dham (or four pilgrimage centre) of Hinduism. For centuries saints and pilgrims in search for the divine, have walked these mystical vales, known in ancient Hindu scriptures as “Kedar Khand”. Through these sacred shrines, meander the holiest of Indian rivers. Goddess Ganga took the form of a river to support life on earth, the most venerated deity in Hinduism, at Gau Mukh (source of River Ganges). The four dhams receive their holy waters in the form of four streams – Yamuna at Yamunotri, Bhagirathi at Gangotri, Mandakini at Kedarnath and Alaknanda at Badrinath. Traditionally the yatra (journey) is done from the West to the East, hence commencing from Yamunotri.
