The great Indian Thar desert lives the tale of it’s own very special identity. Legends of battles fought around the great forts, kings and princes, who built exquisite palaces, art and craft of high order, all survive today as they did centuries ago. A rich culture, in this living desert, provides a setting for an adventure expedition par excellence.

We take you along the sands of time on a camel safari, to unravel the love legends of the desert. The Thar Desert is best explored on camelback.

CAMEL SAFARI details

  • One groom is provided for Grooming, feeding, watering saddling and unsaddling of each camel every day.

  • English speaking trail boss and one or two grooms ride along on extra Camels.

  • A Masseur is available to relieve you of the fatigue of riding on long safaris

  • You stay as a special guest in Forts & Palaces.

  • Folk entertainment.

  • All meals & accommodation and transfers to & from Shekawati are included.

Outline of a Sample trip/Itinerary

  • Explore Shekawati, a region of strange, profound beauty on camel back. While the terrain is barren, dry and hostile, the architecture and painting possess richness unparalleled in all of India, with an incredible number of mansions, palaces and cenotaphs decorated inside and outside with detailed, vivid and colourful murals.

Outline Itinerary

  • The camel safari starts from Manwar a midway location in the Thar Desert on the road to Jaisalmer. Approx. 3 hrs drive time from Jodhpur, Jaisalmer or Bikaner.

  • The route chosen in Camel Safari are off-the-beaten track and are run by experienced guides and with superior quality of tented accommodation. If interested you can stay in traditional desert hut at a farm.

Tour - Camel Safari Rajasthan

The camel, the ship of the desert, is an important facet of the Rajasthani desert folk's existence and an encounter with the sand dunes of Rajasthan from atop this stately beast is an enthralling experience. 

BEST TIME: NOVEMBER / DECEMBER / JANUARY / FEBRUARY

Day     Programme

01        Arrive Delhi

            Arrive Delhi by International Flight and transfer to the Hotel. PM. Half day city tour of Old Delhi.   Overnight stay at hotel in Delhi.

02        Delhi - Agra

            Morning after breakfast drive to Agra en route visiting Sikandra - Akbar's Mausoleum.  Upon arrival transfer to the Hotel.  PM. Half day tour of Taj Mahal and Red Fort.  Overnight stay at Hotel.

03        Agra - Jaipur

            Morning drive from Agra to Jaipur en route visiting Fatehpur Sikri.  Upon arrival transfer to Hotel for the overnight stay.

04        Jaipur - Bikaner

            Morning visit Amber fort and enjoy an elephant joy ride.  Afterwards visit the City Palace Museum and the Observatory. Then drive to Bikaner.  Overnight stay in Bikaner.

 

Camel Safari Begins

05        Bikaner / Ponchu / Shankla Bera

            Morning visit to the Junagarh Fort.  Then leave for Ponchu by car.  The distance is of about 60 Kilometers en route visiting the Rat Temple at Deshnoke.  Meet the Camel crew at Ponchu and begin the Camel Safari adventure covering 15 kilometers through villages and cultivated farm land.  Dinner and overnight in camps.

06        Dhankla Bera / Hanuman Hatti

            After breakfast at camp and continue the Safari upto Hanuman Hatti covering the distance of 15 Kilometers through typical villages of Mud Huts surrounded with Sand Dunes.  Stop at any of the villages for the packed lunch and commence the Safari.  Overnight at Hanuman Hatti in camps.

07        Hanuman Hatti / Bhardia Nada

            After breakfast at camp leave for Bhardia Nada covering 21 Kilometers through villages farm land and sand dunes.  Meals and over­night in camps.

08        Bhardia Nada / Jamba

            After breakfast commence the last leg of the camel safari cover­ing 15 kilometers to Jamba.  Late afternoon visit the Jamba temple located near a lake where one can swim.  Meals and overnight  in the tents.

 

Camel Safari Ends

09        Jamba / Jaisalmer

            After breakfast leave for Jaisalmer by Jeeps.  Distance of about 200 Kilometers to be covered in 6 hours.  Transfer to Hotel upon arrival in Jaisalmer.

10        Jaisalmer - Jodhpur

            Morning visit to the Fort, Jain Temples and Haveli's.  After Lunch proceed to Jodhpur.  Upon arrival in Jodhpur transfer to Hotel for the overnight stay.

11        Jodhpur - Ajmer

            Morning visit the Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswanthada and then proceed for Ajmer. Upon arrival transfer to Hotel for the overnight stay.

12        Ajmer - Delhi

            Morning drive from Ajmer to Delhi.  Upon arrival transfer to Hotel.

13        Leave Delhi

            In time transfer to International airport to connect  flight for onward destination.
