A systematic account of its history is only found from 13th Century AD when the Ahoms conquered the North East . The Ahoms originated from Shan Tribes of Burma and ruled this region for six centuries, squashing eighteen incursions by the powerful Moghul armies of Delhi Durbar. Sandwiched between Tibet (China) in the North, Bhutan in North West, Burma ( Myanmar) on the East, Bangladesh in South, the region stands as an intermediary linking the South East Asia and the rest of India. Inhabitants one of Mongoloid stock. A remote and scantily populated area, this vast canopy of rain forest, is a dynamic blend of an amazing plethora of flora and fauna and its one of the 17 bio – diversity heritage site of the World. Its very isolation has been a blessing from the ills of over development and its natural haunting beauty lures visitors to this rich valley, in whose hidden folds, live her ancient tribes in seclusion , whose isolation has created an enigma with a mysterious association which form an organic ink with the rest of these seven sisters of Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
